I just hope I'm doing this right.
My name is Briana. I'm 24 (turning 25 on Jan. 2). I'm a jobless (and hunting) college grad. I live in Texas. And this year has definitely had its ups and downs. As of late it's consisted of mostly downs after losing my job, a pretty good friend I had met online and some of my online friends. I'm just looking for something that'll make me smile a little.

My holiday wishes:

1) Gift Cards...Mostly to Amazon or Starbucks. I love those places. I live in one some days and spend hours on the other.

2) Friends...You don't have to live in Texas. Just someone I can chat with. A double bonus if you're into The Daily Show and The Colbert Report because if you like those shows then it's likely we've got a couple of other things in common.

3) Icons...Just fun ones with quotes, fandom related (see my interests) and maybe a few with my name.

4) Fandom related stuff...Fake News Fandom fic or other items (check interests). It's mostly for my enjoyment.

5) Job...This isn't exactly an easy thing to get, but it would be nice. After searching for a couple of months this has become quite annoying.

6) Surprise Me...Maybe you can come up with something I never even considered.

This is a rather short list, but this year has really been that kind of year. Thank you for taking the time to read this though. Have a nice day. Or night. Or even perhaps lunch.
If you need to contact me for any reason my e-mail address is: collegegal_2007@hotmail.com

music | West Wing - S07E14 -.Two Weeks Out

Greetings and salutations. This is my second year here at [info]holiday_wishes. I had a lot of fun fulfilling as many wishes as I could last year. My name is Miri, I'm 39 and I live in San Jose, CA with my boyfriend and our three kitties. If you're fulfilling something off my Wish List, please link to your Wish List so I can see if I can fulfill any of your wishes. Please email for my snail-mail address.

My 2009 Holiday Wish List is:

01] Donations to Valley of the Kings Sanctuary & Retreat. Money or items off their wish list. Or, if you're in their area [southern WI], become a member! It's really an amazing feeling when you feed a tiger or lion.

02] For people to shop through my site to help raise money for Valley of the Kings Sanctuary & Retreat. The money I get from the referral links goes to help care for the animals at Valley of the Kings Sanctuary & Retreat.

03] Anything from my Amazon.com Wish List. Hopefully the link shows the items as sorted by priority.   =]

04] Plant a tree.

05] Tiger print stuff. I have a thing for tigers and I love tiger print items. Especially unusual items. Orange/brown or orange/black type tiger print [stripes not spots! - you'd be surprised how many people don't know] not the white/black zebra print.

06] A laptop. Any used laptop [PC] that works would be wonderful. My current laptop is probably around nine years old and is on its last days [sticker says "Made for Windows 2000," monitor has permanent lines, no battery, no internal (or external) CD/DVD rom drive, etc.].

07] Money to help pay my mounting medical bills. Paypal email is the same as my contact email. Any amount is extremely appreciated.

08] Adopt a shelter animal for its full life or donate time, money or items to your local shelter. Or, if you can, take in a stray or put food & water out for stray animals. Please spay/neuter your pets! Every little bit helps.

09] Gift cards for Lucky [grocery], CycleGear [!] and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

10] Please Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Contact & PayPal Email: miri AT lylith DOT com

Thank you, so very much.

Well, yes, I know it is. The snow on the ground, the growing list of wishes I'm going to grant, the nearly complete holiday shopping and the pile of baking supplies in my kitchen all tell me that Christmas is coming faster than I can believe!

My name is Sheryll (as is obvious from the unimaginative user name) and I've been kicking around this community since the beginning. Decorating my tree yesterday, the lovely ornaments sent to me over the years by fellow community members reminded me that, while I've gathered a list of wishes to fulfill, I had not posted a list of my own. Guess it's about time I got around to it.

Without further ado: I want Alan Rickman for Christmas. Oh, wait, you want a serious list, something that's actually possible. Okay, here goes:

1. Handmade ornaments. With the exception of lights and tinsel, pretty much everything on my tree is handmade. It doesn't have to be something you made yourself, as long as someone crafted it lovingly by hand. Doesn't have to be new, either. I'm much in favour of regifting.

2. Yarn. Yeah, still not making much beyond scarves, but I donate all the extra ones to a local homeless shelter. Your scrap yarn could help keep someone warm during a cold Canadian winter.

3. Socks. One can never have too many socks. Anything except sports socks. Holiday designs most welcome. I work at a video store and some of the kids who come in regularly know I try to wear a different pair of Christmas socks for every day in December. Some of mine are old and wearing out. I wear a ladies 7-9. Or a size large will do.

4. BPAL. Yes, a popular wishlist item this year from what I've seen on other lists. Have an imp you didn't like? Pass it this way. Any gender neutral scents are good, too, as I share those with my husband. He's a big fan of Juke Joint, says the women at work follow him around when he wears it. :)

5. Books. That's pretty general, so I'll add that my current reading tends towards YA, fantasy and food essays. Reading about food is next best thing to eating. :D

6. Magazines. Looking for old Life magazines, pre-1985. Anything you can bear to part with.

7. Food/drink. No holiday is complete without treats. Any type of snack will do as long as it doesn't contain nuts, seeds or whole grains. It's a dietary restriction, not an allergy, so if something says it may contain traces of or have come in contact with nuts, that's okay. I can eat those. Chocolate is always good and if you send me Reese's Sticks I'd be eternally grateful (if they're still available in Canada it sure isn't anywhere near me). Have an unusual flavour of potato chip? I'll try it. Chocolate covered ants? Yeah, I'll try those, too! I'm up for pretty much anything. Coffee? Tea? Sure, have to have beverages with all the holiday baking I'm doing.

8. Candles. Any size, scent or colour. I love candles. Need I say more?

9 - the BIG request. Harry Potter Lego. Used if fine. Missing a few pieces if okay, too. Cost too much to send it? I'll help with the shipping if you've got PayPal.

10 - the EASY request. Snail mail. Holiday cards, postcards, anything that fits in my mailbox is most welcome.

Since I've never been shy about sticking my address out there, and it makes it easier for folks to surprise me, here it is:

Sheryll Townsend
1-3 Lowrey Street
Ottawa, ON
K1Y 2S5
Canada

A big shout-out to [info]glowing_dragon, whose card and lovely bookmarks arrived before I'd even given much thought to a wishlist. Thanks so much! Already using the bookmarks. :)

*waves at all the familiar faces and wanders into the kitchen to start the holiday baking*

Holiday Wishes 2009 Monday

I've been participating long enough that the whole family looks forward to granting wishes. I'm feeling a bit low myself, so hopefully participating this year will perk me up enough to enjoy the coming season as it has in the past.

for me
1 - a different job - i am afraid that my current employer may have crossed the line where if i don't start looking for something else sooner, later i will look back and regret not seeing the writing on the wall. it is mostly a problem of bad economy and funding cuts and interdepartmental politics. or maybe it is me. i wish i knew what else i was supposed to be doing, as this was supposed to be a long term career and we were hoping to expand our family in the coming year. so perhaps there is some fabulous non-scammy work from home i could investigate. i am currently in single specialty medical coding/billing with a cpc-a and i have a natural talent for auditing, which my current employer can't afford to address/acknowledge/develop because of cuts.

2 -accessories for a pentax k200d - i am supposedly going to get one, which would be really nice. but even refurbished there won't be much funds leftover for any of the adds ons that will make the camera more functional.

3 - gardening doodads/tips- i have determined i have a brown thumb. i am in zone 5 and am not letting myself go crazy with the seed pron this year due to low yields for high investment in the past 2 years. i need items that complement/thrive well in a yard characterized by benign neglect. my allergies are so severe that i have to be able to leave the yard alone after july. i have lots of space and lots of soilborne plagues and yet really enjoy getting out here in the spring and giving it a try.novelty would keep it fresh.

for my funny and cool 7 year old daughter

4 -secular homeschool items/ideas- we are trying an experiment this year with homeschooling. with both my husband and i working, it is truly an experiment. we are dealing with some mild sensory issues and fine motor delays that make it challenging to sit still and focus. we need sneaky minilessons and projects and crafts for when she's happy to work with us because she hasn't seen us but we're so tired from working that addition is a challenge for us!

5 - children's music - do you have a favorite album of kids music -along the lines of artists who specialize in adult music but have also tossed out a kid's album? she's never liked the traditional kiddie tv show albums, but it would be nice to add something to our repatoire besides tmbg's no and sandra boyton.

6- wacky kid socks- she's overdue for a growth spurt and likes longer lengths and currently has a 13/1 in the foot. i don't shop much, so i'm not quite sure where to look.

7 - a controller/tranceiver for a gamecube- we got 2 wireless over the summer but didn't keep the receipt and only one of the woozits that you plug into cube is transmitting to the controllers. this would be less dire if santa hadn't already gone out and got a multiplayer game for her to enjoy with friends.

for the hubby

8 - steampunk doodads- he would like to develop a new obsession. i'm not looking to indulge him-but i don't mind if others do. ;) he's looking for a russian military spin, as i understand it, because it would match his build and beard and heritage.

for others

9 - increased traffic for my friends' etsy shops, because they could use the sales. one specializes in sock beasts and the other in additional assorted quirky fibre arts.

10 - donate money to help a family in need - if you are in a position and mood to do so - the rayne family is having a lot of difficulties this holiday season as jacqui is entering the radiation phase of her breast cancer treatment and they face possible foreclosure on their farm.

My name is Jessica. I’m 27 years old (already? lol) and I live in Ohio. I’m currently unemployed and doing what I can to make the best of the times. I’m also going to be trying to make some wishes happen for others despite the harder times financially. I love scrapbooking and making greeting cards, as well as cooking and baking. My tastes on things are really all over the place.

1. A job in childcare somewhere in the NW Ohio area – I have been out of work, aside from babysitting and the like, since July. It was by my own choice due to circumstances beyond my control, but the difficult economy has been making job hunting that much harder
2. Cricut cartridges – I adore my Cricut and would love to have more cartridges. Any would be great, but I already have the following: Sweethearts, Home Décor, Wild Card, Stretch Your Imagination, Plantin Schoolbook, Animal Kingdom, Stone Script, Doodlecharms, Everyday Paper Dolls.
3. Scrapbooking supplies – Because of #2 above, I am also in need of any supplies for scrapbooking. Be it cardstock (plain or patterned), glue or other adhesives, or embellishments of any kind.
4. Gift cards to places like Wal-Mart or a crafting store
5. Anything from my Amazon Wishlist – I’ve had some of the stuff on there for years, and it’s still waiting to be purchased, either by myself or someone else.
6. More traffic and word of mouth advertising for my website – I started selling some of the greeting cards and will soon be adding molded crayons that I’ve been making to try to make a little bit extra money. A friend of mine will be selling some of her jewelry there. We could use some extra traffic and word of mouth advertising. Unfortunately we only ship within the US – we are also in the process of updating and overhauling, so there may be some delay in when we have new items posted.
7. Any old crayons that are taking up space at your house – See #6. I melt down old crayons to make new ones.
8. Surprise me! – Surprises are amazing. It can be anythinng...Just surprise me!
9. Donate to a local charity that will help local people – Could be donating time, money or other resources – whatever they need and you are able to give. There are so many people who need things this holiday season (and any other time of the year!) that anything you can do to help would be appreciated I’m sure.

E-mail me if you have any questions at chica_del_padre@yahoo.com.

i'm kayla. a 19 year old college student from michigan. i've done this for a couple of years now. i love being able to make someone else's holiday a little happier. :)

as for my wishlist...well, here goes nothing!

1. snailmail. like many others have posted, i LOVE getting things in the mail, especially from other countries. :)

2. crafting supplies. most especially scrapbooking stuff, clay, and paint. or if you have any gift cards to michaels/jo ann fabric/hobby lobby laying around that you're not going to use, that would be AWESOME. :D

3. interesting pictures/paper scraps. from magazines, pictures you've taken, newspapers, kid's books, old sheet music...things along those lines. i love making collages, but i never seem to be able to find anything i'm allowed to tear up. :P

4. stamps. i think i like sending snail mail more than i like getting it...but being in college = me being poor and not having money to buy such things very often. :(

5. mix CDs. i love finding new music to listen to. maybe some of your favorites could be mine, too!

6. russian stuff. i'm learning the language now, and i'm planning on minoring in it, and i would love anything. ads, newspapers, books, random knick knacks. that would be super cool.

7. earrings. especially handmade. :)

8. sims 2 expansion packs for PC. if you don't play anymore, and you've got them lying around, i'd be more than willing to give them a home. most especially the ikea stuff disk!

9. zune HD. yeah, i know this won't happen. but it's SO shiny, and i REALLY want one. :(

10. go find one of those christmas trees to donate a toy to a kid in need and do it! it makes me so sad to know that there are going to be kids out there who won't have anything this christmas. even more so this year with the awful economy. go make some kid's world a little bit better. :)

Hi there!

My name is Bria! This is my second or third year doing holiday wishes. I am a 26-year-old single mama of one awesome little 18-month-old guy named Ryatt. Holidays are extra-lonely for me, because I have no friends or family out here in Chicago, so I usually end up spending them alone. This year has been really rough. Back in the beginning of the year, my son was diagnosed with some sort of blood disorder. At first, the docs thought it was just iron deficiency, but he has been on iron and nothing has changed. And his docs don't seem to care. I have been fighting with them for months to please try something different to help my son and they just refuse. It's one of the most heartbreaking, frustrating situations I have ever been through. So, I am hoping for a little bit of joy, courtesy of this community. :-)

1. Money. Don't we all wish for this? :-) As mentioned in my intro, I am a single mama of an awesome little guy with some type of blood disorder. As I also mentioned, the doctors I am taking him to are doing nothing for him. He is not getting better. I want to take him some place else (I already have some place in mind), but the people I want to take him to do not accept my insurance. So, I am trying to save up money so that I can take him and get all the fancy tests they want him to have. Even if it is just a dollar, I am desperate for answers and will scrimp, save, sell, beg, borrow or steal anything I need to in order to get them.

2. A Jayne hat for me and my son. I am a huge fan of Firefly and would love if some one could knit us both Jayne hats to keep us warm in the cold Chicago winter.

3. A warm coat and new pair of shoes for myself. After 4 years of living in Chicago, you would think I would have gotten it through my head that Chicago is both cold and snowy in the winter. But alas, I have not. As a result, I do not have a winter coat. I have been surviving with layers upon layers of sweatshirts, but wow would it be nice to have an actual coat. As for the shoes, I just discovered that the one pair of shoes I have that fits me has cracks in the soles. As a result, if I walk on wet ground, the moisture seeps into the soles and my feet get wet, which could cause a problem when it is 15 below 0.

4. Anything cute, funky or punk for an 18-month-old. This can include clothes, toys, whatever. I am not a huge fan of "normal" baby things, as I pretty much despise all pastels, so if you have something funky, send it over. :-P My son is pretty tiny for his age and wears anything that falls in the range of 12 or 18 months.

5. Buttons/pins/badges. I collect them! I have a shirt on my wall filled with them and it is aaaaalmost completely full. I would love some pretty or unique ones to fill in the rest. Bonus points if it's a button that has something to do with where you live.

6. A copy of your favorite book. I am a voracious reader, and love reading new and exciting things. I have a wide range of interests and some of my favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Francesca Lia Block, Christopher Moore...So, pretty much anything. :-P Also welcome are awesome books for kids.

7. Anything rainbow or penguin-themed. I am unabashedly queer. I also unabashedly love penguins. So, anything that incorporates either of these themes is a-okay in my book.

8. A gift card for a Timbuk2 messenger bag. This is my long shot. I am a messenger bag junkie. They are completely awesome for carrying around all of my junk and the junk of my child. I just recently had my favorite bag that I had been carrying around disintegrate, so I am in the market for a new one. Timbuk2 bags seem study (a must) and stylish and I would love to have one. If you happen to have a black and red one laying around that you do not use, that would also be acceptable. :-P Or (I should soooo not go to their website) THIS ONE.

9. Anything from my Amazon.com Wishlist. Ah, yes, the good ol' Amazon Wish list. Used is encouraged.

10. Donate your time and/or money. The holidays always put extra stress on non-profits, whether it be an animal shelter, soup kitchen, food bank, senior center, etc. And, with the economy being the way it is, they are already stressed enough. It would be wonderful if everyone could kick in $20, but I know that is not a reality for some people, so consider donating your time or some physical items. Soup kitchens need people to serve and non-perishables to hand out to families, animal shelters need cleaning supplies and things for the animals, homeless shelters need toiletries for the residents, toys for the kids, clothes...pretty much everyone has something laying around in their house that could be useful to a non-profit. Also, don't forget about them after the holidays and continue to donate what you can.

If you need to contact me, please feel free to e-mail me at anjul.of.grace@gmail.com. Please put "Holiday Wishes - [your LJ name]" in the subject line so I can stay all organized and stuff/ :-P

Thank yo so much. I wish you all peace and love this holiday season.

Bria and Ryatt
